Our Story

Our Executive Director, Krissy Nimblett, has a master’s degree in special education and a minor in psychology. After teaching for 11 years at schools for the Deaf in Sweden, where she had moved after graduating from college, she moved back to the United States and got a job teaching at an alternative high school in the Greater Boston area. This job and the young people she worked with there made her realize that her own experiences with domestic violence and trauma had given her a passion for working with others who needed healing from these life experiences.

In 2005, Krissy and her family moved to Middle Tennessee, and in 2012 she began volunteering at the Maury County Jail. In 2014, she began working as women’s chaplain. At the beginning of 2017, she teamed up with Timothy’s Gift, Inc., to form Rise Up, Tennessee to support her work and the many new program opportunities being provided to the female residents of the jail. Rise Up, Tennessee, as a separate wing of Timothy’s Gift, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Rise Up, Tennessee has a team of over 20 volunteers who work weekly with the women at the Maury County Jail, teaching classes, leading Bible studies and church services, and doing one-on-one mentoring. Interesting in joining us as a volunteer? Contact us at: RiseUpTennessee@gmail.com
